Carolina tops Rangers in game two

On Sunday afternoon, the Hurricanes prospects barely squeaked out a 1-0 win over the Rangers prospects in Traverse City at the Prospects tournament.  Zac Dalpe scored the game’s only goal at 19:05 of the third period, assisted by defensemen Michal Jordan and Kyle Lawson.

Goaltender Mike Murphy made 33 saves, earning the shutout win.  He’s leading all goalies in the tournament with a GAA of 1 and a save percentage of .964.  Murphy is the only goalie to have played two games so far.  It’s a foregone conclusion that he’s got the starting job in Charlotte, and I have to think that we’ll see Troy Passingham in nets on Tuesday against the Columbus prospects.

The Canes took eight minor penalties and one fighting major in the game, and this is something they’ll have to work on before Tuesday.

Jeffrey Skinner, who registered seven shots on Saturday, had just two in Sunday’s game.  He didn’t show up on the good side of the scoresheet, but he had two minor penalties.  Dalpe led the way with four shots on goal today, including the game winning shot.

The forward lines and defense pairings were juggled a little bit prior to the game, and it didn’t yield the offensive results that the coaches were hoping for.  Still, Mike Murphy should be congratulated for turning everything aside.

The Blue Jackets are 0-2 in the tournament and have given up ten goals.  Hopefully, Carolina’s forwards will be able to show their stuff against Columbus’ porous defense and goaltending.  Puck drop for that game will be 6:30.
