The Hurricanes made 13 roster cuts on Saturday before the preseason game against Atlanta, and they made five more cuts this morning, trimming the roster down to 26.
The latest cuts are forwards Jon Matsumoto, Riley Nash, Jerome Samson and Jared Staal. Defenseman Bryan Rodney was also cut. All five are assigned to Charlotte, and their preseason camp will open on Monday.
Samson and Rodney gained some NHL experience last season and will be among the regular call-ups this season.
For now it looks like Jeff Skinner will have an NHL roster spot. Last cuts should be made on Friday before the team leaves for Europe.
