Hurricanes winger Scott Walker and defensemen Dennis Seidenberg and Nic Wallin will all be out for Thursday’s “must win” game against Tampa. To fill the void, two have come up from Albany. On Wednesday, the Hurricanes recalled left wing Michael Ryan. Today, they called defenseman Bryan Rodney.
I don’t know much about either player, but Ryan is the leading scorer for the Rats and Rodney leads all Rats defensemen in points.
Ryan, who was the 32nd overall pick in the 1999 entry draft, has played in two Hurricanes games this season and has not registered a point. In 36 games with the River Rats, he’s scored 23 goals and added 13 assists. In 65 games with the Sabres between 2006 and 2008, he scored seven goals and six assists.
The 24 year-old Rodney has also played in two Hurricanes games this season with no points to show. He was undrafted, but was invited to Rangers camp after the lockout and earned a spot in Hartford. The next year, he went to an Islanders tryout and landed with their AHL affiliate. Last winter, he signed with Albany. This season with the Rats, he has scored two goals and added 20 assists.
