Anyone want a Kaberle?

The Hurricanes have activated defenseman Dennis Seidenberg from the injured reserve and have assigned Byron Rodney to Albany.  Rodney played in Seidenberg’s stead for the last six games, earning two assists and the praise of his coaches.  GM Jim Rutherford said that he’ll have a spot on next season’s team, but it’s a numbers thing right now.

”He’s put himself in a position where, going into next year’s training camp, he’ll have to play himself off the team,”

Today, the team also put defenseman Frantisek Kaberle on waivers for the second time this season.  Kaberle has played in just 22 games this season and has six assists.  In late December, Kaberle was placed on waivers, even amidst a rash of injury and illness among the blueliners.  He cleared waivers and returned to the lineup the next day.

If Kaberle clears waivers this time, the Hurricanes may look to move the 35-year old, who scored the Cup winning goal in 2006.  Kaberle is signed through 2009-10 at $2.2M.
