MVP So Far This Season

About a month ago I picked Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins as the MVP at that point.  He is currently tied in the NHL scoring race with Steve Stamkos of Tampa Bay.  He has been surpassed in the MVP race by Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers.

Lundqvist is having a dominant season in goal.  He is posting a .940 saves percentage and a 1.78 GAA.  He is the most significant reason why the Rangers are in first place in the East Conference.

I believe that it was a mistake that Tim Thomas was not given the Hart Trophy last season.  Lundqvist is posting even better numbers so far.

Henrik Lundqvist plays behind a weaker overall defence than Thomas does as the Rangers do not have any defenceman on the level of Zdeno Chara.  A Boston goalie has led the NHL in saves percentage for the last three seasons before this year and that is a testament to the Bruin defence.  Lundqvist is on pace to play 61 games this season.  That is more than the 57 games Thomas played.  Lundqvist is on pace to break Thomas’s saves percentage record from last season.  Henrik Lundqvist will hold the record for the highest saves percentage ever.

Henrik Lundqvist is having an MVP season.  He is having an outstanding year with the New York Rangers.  If you believed that Tim Thomas should have been in the MVP race last year, you should believe the same about Lundqvist because he is having an even better regular season statistically.

I agree.  I hate him but he’s been phenomenal this year.

Evgeni Malkin disagrees with your assessment.

In all seriousness, though…King Henrik is more than deserving of being involved in the MVP discussion.  His season at this point > Timmy’s season last year.  Which is incredible.

i think Datysuk should win the vezina.  i know this should normally go to a goalie, but i think Datysuk is more than deserving.

Malkin = MVP.

Should’ve waited a few hours before writing this one, haha.

Malkin had a good game today but I would still say that Lundqvist has been worth more win shares to his team so far this season.
