CBC lost the rights to the Hockey Night in Canada theme and is holding a contest to replace it. The winning theme gets $100,000 and half the continuing royalties. Thousands of entries were submitted and the CBC contest is left with two finalists.
UPDATE: The winner has been announced and it is Canadian Gold by Colin Oberst.
Here are the two finalists:
Entry number one is called Canadian Gold and was submitted by Beaumont, Alberta (an Edmonton suburb) elementary school teacher Colin Oberst
Entry number two is called Sticks to the Ice and was submitted by 13 year old Robert Fraser Burke of Toronto.
The winner is going to be announced on tonight’s Hockey Night In Canada Broadcast.
Although this contest is a bit of a publicity stunt, it has produced two good themes that I could imagine watching on Saturday nights for years to come.
