Todd McLellan is a genius

McLellan is an outside-the-box-fearless genius for solving a problem with the pieces at hand instead of waiting for new ones. That declaration is contingent on him keeping Brent Burns at forward. Failure to continue doing so will trigger revocation of said genius status and an indefinite stay inside the box.
Loved Cranky showing off for his dissenters. Seriously, all the way down and around the net, with a shot reversed through his legs? Beautiful. Makes me want to say something vulgar to the haters.
Back to that big fancy new forward Brent Burns. I've liked that idea more by the minute, but I think my liking is maxed out, I don't know if I can keep liking it more. It might give me an aneurysm or something.

On a scale of one to ten, how much does it hurt?

I never understood that question as a diagnostic tool, once you factor in a person’s pain tolerance and varying sensitivities to different kinds of pain. A person might shrug at a broken bone or abdominal pain, but poke the same person in the eye and they fall down crying like a baby. Brodie Brazil explained to Sharks fans how they should feel about the Kings winning and the Sharks having lost. I can only conclude that Brodie is unfamiliar with the basics of psychotherapy. There’s no “should” to feeling.
I don’t feel differently about the Sharks losing now that the Kings won, even if it does mean San Jose is alone in the Pacific Division without a Cup. Who knows, the Pacific Division (edit: yes, I actually forgot about the Yotes. Poor Yotes) may go by the way before the Sharks win, will that make it not matter? Does the way the Kings won make it worse that the Sharks didn’t? The way they tore through the playoffs, seemingly immune to chance and challenge the whole way? They played so many one-goal games, if you factor in the EN goals, and yet lost so few. I would think their achievement would make the whole league shudder—how did they do that? With really boring awful hockey that is a portent of an imminent lockout?
Saying a little serenity prayer here and ignoring that…

Here’s what’s been said about last night’s game against the LA Kings: “Sharks hold court over Kings in 4-2 win,” “Sharks learn from mistakes, trump Kings 4-2,” “San Jose Sharks defeat Los Angeles Kings 4-2.” Now that’s more like it, Sharks.
During the second intermission, I heard a man say behind me “3-1, huh? Isn’t that what the score was last time…” But another man cut him off saying “What the hell… saying that…. What are you trying to do?!?”
I kept telling myself “lightning never strikes the same spot twice, right?” Of course we all know that isn’t true, especially if you set up a lightning rod.
