The Sharks play the Kings tomorrow. I don’t know about all Sharks fans but I’ll just hold my breath until then. It would be nice to have Douglas Murray back in but, as he said, we don’t want him rushing back and having to leave the game again.
Sharks fans are still not showing universal, not even majority approval of Niemi’s performance lately. That bad first goal in Dallas was vexing but I thought Niemi redeemed himself in advance. It was nothing short of miraculous that the Sharks managed to score first after being pinned so long in their own zone to start the game. Was it not as bad as it looked? I must be biased and prone to panic. But I credit Niemi with some of that non-scoring by Dallas. Later, his timely save that preceded Thornton’s back-breaking goal was not beautiful and but it did the job. No complaints here. If the team’s confidence continues to grow, so will Niemi’s.
Today Sharks fans wait. I will try to do something other than think about LA and their very scary goalie. Don’t think about the fact that the Sharks’ power play will be under more pressure from the Kings, that failing to score there will be the least of their worries since some Kings like to score short-handed. Absolutely do not consider that the Sharks just won two games in a row and it is possible that they are all smiling too much again. Couture at least seems aware of that danger:
“A little bit,” Couture responded when asked if he felt any personal relief in notching his first goal in three weeks. “But you can’t sit here and pat yourself on the back. We’re still battling for a playoff spot.” -Mercury News
Don’t think about that. The Sharks made it out of Dallas last night, even if they left some of the beat guys to the mercy of the airlines. According to reports this morning, no one was killed by the tornadoes, and there were very few injuries considering how many tornadoes there were.
Since neither of today’s NHL games are relevant to the Sharks’ current predicament, I thought I would look up the minor league listening options. Today at 4:00pm PDT, the AHL Worcester Sharks play Albany. You can listen to that here. There is a possibility that the recently signed Matt Tennyson will be playing, but Worcester was noncommittal yesterday:
Darryl Hunt @210Darryl: “We’ll see” was the answer I got tonight… RT @petshark47 I wonder if Matt Tennyson will play tomorrow for the #WorSharks?
If you have been following Worcester, you may agree that it can’t hurt to put the newest new guy right in the game.
Later, the ECHL Stockton Thunder play the second of five games in the Kelly Cup western conference quarter finals. You can follow that here at 7:00 PDT. (Those aren’t the direct links to the radio broadcasts. Use the little radio tower icon if you’re new to this.)
Yesterday a link to this Worcester Sharks highlight video came across my Twitter feed. In case you missed it as it made the rounds, enjoy:

About Petshark: Talking Stick
Native of Northern California. Hockey fan since 1998... sort of... there's a hiatus in there that I still can't explain.
I want to know about anything and everything related to the sport and the spectacle. I watch, I react, I write it down.
My interest in the Sharks was initially a matter of geographic convenience and regional loyalty because that seemed to be how it worked. I had no prior interest (at all-- AT ALL) in professional sports of any kind. When I met hockey, it might have set off a chain reaction of general sports fandom. It hasn't, I don't think it will. At all.
Since then, that interest developed into full blown (mostly sort of usually almost completely) exclusive loyalty to the Sharks.
I started blogging a couple years ago on wordpress. I still occasionally put things there that I don't think fit here because they are not about the Sharks. Wherever my words wander, here on Kuklas Korner, they will (usually) hang on to a teal thread.
