Niittymaki’s back in Worcester for conditioning. McLaren’s on waivers, probably going to the Woo. Wingels joins Clowe on the injured list. What does it all mean?
Nitty: maybe when he played in that first conditioning stint, he discovered he wasn’t 100% yet? Maybe now he is? Or… what, the Sharks wanted him elsewhere when the Tampa Bay scouts came to town? Why? They weren’t going to see him anyway, and they’ve seen him before. Seems most likely a function of reconditioning, plain and simple. No reason to “showcase” him in the AHL.
McLaren: maybe the team thought he did pretty well game before last, so he was back against the Sens. I guess they rethought that after seeing him against the Sens. I don’t know, didn’t seem like he did anything too dreadful. He took a penalty, who didn’t? I think he spent less time in the box than Pavs did. I think anything sub-par from him would hardly stand out in the mess that was that game.
Wingels: Ugh demmit having him injured is no good and it begs the question why did the Sharks put McLaren on waivers now?
Will they bring up… who? McCarthy? (A fan can hope.) Mashinter? Viedensky?
Wilson was in Worcester last week, right? He may have some opinions he didn’t have before about the guys he has there.
Oh, this just in. Well, not just. It came across Twitter a couple of hours ago:
@210Darryl: “John McCarthy has been recalled from the #WorSharks to the @SanJoseSharks”
I guess that answers that part of the question. It still seems like maneuverings are underway. It’s just odd. But I am very happy McCarthy is back, even if he may only be here for the road trip if Wingels and Clowe are actually recovered after the All Star break. Anything can happen.
In the mean time, the Sharks are fretting about the power play. It’s not just struggling, it is utterly powerless. I think the Habs are worse, but they may not be anymore.
Nitty and the McCarthyless Woo Sharks lost tonight. That’s a drag, and also why I don’t think Nitty being in Worcester is any kind of a “showcase” situation. It doesn’t really seem to be his element.
That last game, the one I watched on the laptop after the one I watched live on Thursday. They kind of blur together. I have a vague memory of the Sharks seeming to look better than the other team I watched, and yet both lost 4-1 so it’s hard to tell them apart. Yes, the Sens used to be hopeless horrible bad, but they haven’t been most of this season. So being beaten by them isn’t the shameful stain on your name it used to be. It’s not like losing 4-1 to the Islanders. Ahem. But the number of penalties the Sharks took was very out of character. They were rattled. They need to work on that.
Oh well. Nabby won on Thursday. That’s something. And McCarthy’s back! Welcome back J-Mac!

About Petshark: Talking Stick
Native of Northern California. Hockey fan since 1998... sort of... there's a hiatus in there that I still can't explain.
I want to know about anything and everything related to the sport and the spectacle. I watch, I react, I write it down.
My interest in the Sharks was initially a matter of geographic convenience and regional loyalty because that seemed to be how it worked. I had no prior interest (at all-- AT ALL) in professional sports of any kind. When I met hockey, it might have set off a chain reaction of general sports fandom. It hasn't, I don't think it will. At all.
Since then, that interest developed into full blown (mostly sort of usually almost completely) exclusive loyalty to the Sharks.
I started blogging a couple years ago on wordpress. I still occasionally put things there that I don't think fit here because they are not about the Sharks. Wherever my words wander, here on Kuklas Korner, they will (usually) hang on to a teal thread.
