Finding August lacking in hockey just a little too much? You’re not alone. The Edmonton Oil Kings have started their fifth training camp today and are inviting WHL and hockey fans in general to put on some socks and shoes, maybe grab a sweater and step out of the sun.
According to the Oil Kings, Thursday’s sessions include fitness assessments and registration at Body by Bennett. So don’t worry you’re not missing anything yet. If you are looking to make plans to attend any of the public ice sessions, the Oil Kings have a complete schedule available on their website and Friday through Sunday there are on-ice sessions in Fort Saskatchewan. Some of the sessions will be drills, but the Oil Kings seem to have your entertainment wishes in mind, there will be a Championship final on Sunday.
The guys at Coming Down the Pipeline have put together a comprehensive list of players that will be at the camp and what might be expected.
The Edmonton Oil Kings had several of their draft eligible players such as Keegan Lowe (Carolina Hurricaines), Travis Ewanyk (Edmonton Oilers), Michael St. Croix (New York Rangers) and Laurent Brossoit (Calgary Flames) selected at this summer’s NHL entry draft. Although not all of these players are likely to receive an invite to their NHL team’s camps in September as perhaps Oil Kings captain Mark Pysyk, this is still an opportunity to see some talented players before they take the next step in their careers.
There are of course other Edmonton Oilers prospects among those at the Oil Kings camp in Martin Gernat, Kristians Pelss and Cameron Abney. If you need an Oilers fix before the training camp begins September 20th, here’s your chance.

About Oil Patch
Lisa McRitchie is a fairly new writer, online at least, but makes up for inexperience with passion for the game of hockey and memories of Mrs. Leskiw’s English AP class; who knew they would pay off one day.
Oil Patch focuses on the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Oil Kings, The Oklahoma City Barons and Team Canada Hockey with game coverage, news updates, speculation and interviews.
Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
