The Edmonton Oilers once again have some serious injury concerns. Potential rookie of the year Ryan Nugent-Hopkins fell awkwardly into the board during Monday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks and left the game. Nugent-Hopkins will not play tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. Also injured in Monday night’s game was defenceman Tom Gilbert. For Gilbert it was a knee injury.
The Oilers have once again called up defenceman Colten Teubert but also centreman Josh Green.
Teubert was acquired in the Dustin Penner trade on the 2011 trade deadline day. Teubert has played several games with the Oilers so far this season. Although Teubert this is certainly not Teubert’s breakout year, he is showing signs of growth and improvement between his time with the Oilers and the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL. Teubert will certainly not be able to play the minutes that Gilbert who leads the team in time on ice plays, but his addition to the line-up will help take the pressure off of the other defencemen who have played this year with the Oilers.
Green was an Oiler from 2000-2002 and re-signed with the team as a free agent after spending several years between the NHL and the AHL with a large number of other teams; 5 NHL and 4 AHL as well as 2 European teams.
With the Barons this season, Green has 7 goals and 10 assists and will likely centre on the third or fourth line as the other centremen with the Oilers shuffle upwards.

Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
