Edmonton Oilers’ prospect defenceman Taylor Fedun suffered a broken femur in an icing race to the puck during the pre-season and has only recently begun skating again. With news from the GM meetings saying that hybrid icing has been gaining support, the Oilers decided to ask Fedun what he thought.
No one goes to a hockey game excited to watch the races for the puck, and Fedun is not the only player to have suffered such a traumatic injury. Because the focus of the league has turned to player safety in the wake of Sydney Crosby’s concussion issues, the long talked about hybrid icing suggestions may finally get somewhere.

About Oil Patch
Lisa McRitchie is a fairly new writer, online at least, but makes up for inexperience with passion for the game of hockey and memories of Mrs. Leskiw’s English AP class; who knew they would pay off one day.
Oil Patch focuses on the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Oil Kings, The Oklahoma City Barons and Team Canada Hockey with game coverage, news updates, speculation and interviews.
Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
