2014 Edmonton Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss Draws Record Crowd

It took only 51 seconds for centreman Andrew Koep to find the back of the net, giving the Edmonton Oil Kings a 1-0 lead over the Moose Jaw Warriors and Santa's Annonumous thousands and thousands of bears.

Given the Oilers current standings, it was little surprise that the Oil Kings would set another attendance record for their biggest game of the season. This season 14066 attended the Teddy Bear Toss sending 11,492 bears, poodles, unicorns and other stuffed toys onto the ice.

The Oil Kings started off well, but did go on to lose, 7-4 to the warriors in a bout full of penalties, including one to a giant late tossed bear in the third period.

Although it was a rare Oil Kings home loss, fans were delighted to take in some entertaining hockey, and once again fill the seats of Rexall Place.

Strange, the weather didn't seem to get to these fans.

About Oil Patch

Lisa McRitchie is a fairly new writer, online at least, but makes up for inexperience with passion for the game of hockey and memories of Mrs. Leskiw’s English AP class; who knew they would pay off one day.

Oil Patch focuses on the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Oil Kings, The Oklahoma City Barons and Team Canada Hockey with game coverage, news updates, speculation and interviews.

Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
