Oilers shutout Flyers 2-0
It was a rare visit by the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night in Edmonton, so rare in fact that the last time the Flyers won in Rexall Place was March 19, 2001. It’s not as though the Flyers play in Edmonton every year, although that would be a good change, but rather the teams only face each other in Edmonton every two to three years. Still, this victory is sweet for the Oilers; they need all of the wins they can get if only for their own sense of pride.
Oilers beat the Flames 6-1
It has been a very long time coming. It was October 17th, 2008 the last time the Oilers left the Calgary Saddledome with a win in their pocket. Since that game, the Oilers have been 0-9-1 in Calgary.
As the disappointment of the Oilers’ season settles in, the focus turns to the positives that might be found; Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could be the first Oiler to win the Rookie of the Year honours, the Oilers could select another high calibre player and of course that Jordan Eberle could win the Lady Byng Trophy.
You had to feel for Edmonton Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle; his team had just lost to their Alberta rival, Eberle had only just returned to from injury, and although Eberle is the team’s leading scorer, he had not been named to the All Stars game. These could not have been easy topics for the sophomore, but those were of course the topics of choice. And then, you had to add in the fact that Eberle is Hall’s roommate and so has to know more about Hall’s injury than most others. There didn’t seem to be enough focus on Eberle himself during his interview on After Hours, but it was an interesting segment none the less.
Ryan Whitney of course makes a joke at Eberle’s expense, and if you don’t have access to CBC you may have missed it. And so, the Edmonton Oilers have made the videos available for your enjoyment.
The results are back, and better than expected for Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle. Eberle who is the team points leader. Eberle is expected to miss 2-3 weeks in what is being referred to as a sprained knee.
“It’s never a good time for an injury, but I’m going to focus on getting healthy and getting back to the lineup as soon as I can.” Eberle told the Oilers. While the team has made several improvements over last year, wins have still been hard to come by and will only be more difficult without Eberle.
Eberle injured his knee in an innocent enough looking hit with Dallas Stars’ left winger Jamie Benn on Saturday afternoon:
Oilers lose 4-1 to Stars
Things are going from bad to worse for the Edmonton Oilers. What started out as an amazing season, the Oilers at one point led the western conference has now turned to what appears to be another basement finish
The Oilers are still without top defenceman Ryan Whitney, lost Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Tom Gilbert on Monday and after a game with the Dallas Stars may be without Jordan Eberle for an uncertain amount of time. Eberle suffered a knee injury early in the game and did not return. There has been no official word on the extent of the injury, but this cannot be a good thing for the already ailing team.
Oilers lose 5 - 3 to Canucks
While I was enjoying the 2012 IIHF World Juniors tournament in Calgary, the Edmonton Oilers were struggling with their first game of their World Juniors road trip. The first stop was Vancouver, another difficult divisional rival game that on paper the Oilers had lost before the game even began.
This was the perfect game for 2011 1st round Swedish defenceman draft pick Oscar Klefbom to see his NHL team, the Edmonton Oilers, play live. Klefbom and several members of the Sweden U20 team took in an NHL game in the same building they will play in Friday night while facing Team Canada in another preliminary game and what a game it was. According to Dan Tencer of 630 Ched, several of the players caught onto the energy of the arena and participated in the fist pump cam.
Oilers beat Avalanche 4-1
After their worst game this season, the Oilers went back to basics and focused on the simple things on their off day. The results, a much anticipated victory against a division rival. Certain players stepped up, while others have remained invisible, but overall this game was a vast improvement over the last.
Oilers lose 5-3 to Flames
I don’t know how (but I have a good idea) the Edmonton Oilers could start a game with a 2-0 lead and end up losing by two goals. Not only that, this loss was as bad as they come for Oiler fans, this was a game against the Calgary Flames.
About Oil Patch
Lisa McRitchie is a fairly new writer, online at least, but makes up for inexperience with passion for the game of hockey and memories of Mrs. Leskiw’s English AP class; who knew they would pay off one day.
Oil Patch focuses on the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Oil Kings, The Oklahoma City Barons and Team Canada Hockey with game coverage, news updates, speculation and interviews.
Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
