Entry Level Contract Players AHL Eligible

Saturday’s deadline looms, and there isn’t much hope on the horizon. The Edmonton Oilers are split down the middle; guys who can’t afford to miss a year’s salary because they are in the final half of their careers, and guys who just starting their career and who can’t get rusty. And so none of the players look forward to any kind of work stoppage.
Currently, only Nail Yakupov has come out and said that he will play in Europe, the KHL more specifically should the NHL season be cancelled. The rest, many are preparing to receive an assignment to the AHL and the Oklahoma City Barons.

Cross another name off of the list of young players that the Oilers need to ink up long term as Lady Byng candidate sophomore Jordan Eberle has signed his extension. While Eberle’s agent may have gone into negotiations with the intentions of signing Eberle to more money than Hall based on their current production to date, Eberle has in fact signed a deal quite similar to his roommate, teammate and friend Taylor Hall, 6 years $36 million.

No Oiler Award Winners… This Year

It was close, but neither Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Jordan Eberle walked away from the annual NHL awards show in Las Vegas with an award. Both players placed second in voting for their respective awards; the Calder Trophy and the Lady Byng. What might be considered shocking is that 2 voters placed Nugent-Hopkins as 5th best, and 12 as 4th rookie of the year (as per Dan Tencer). Of course both players are happy just to be nominated, but surely it won’t be too long before players like Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins are awarded something.

Jordan Eberle Gives Babk To Regina

While Canadian summers are known to be short, Canadians like Jordan Eberle try to make the most of the time we are given. After the Oilers missed the post season, again, Eberle was selected to play in the Worlds for Canada. But even there Eberle saw an early exit. Now according to Greg Harder of the Regina Leader Post Eberle has a busy summer ahead of him raising money through golf in him home town of Regina.
Eberle enjoyed home-course advantage Thursday when he took part in the sixth annual Shooting Stars Foundation golf gala at the Royal Regina Golf Club. Eberle has a vested interest in the event after joining forces last year with Shooting Stars, a local charitable organization founded by former NHLers Jamie Heward and Mike Sillinger. The trio invited a handful of other NHL players and local celebrities to take part in the two-day event, concluding today with the Sticks on Rose street hockey tournament.
It’s a busy time for Eberle, who is also slated to be back in Regina on July 11-12 for the first-ever Eberle and Friends Golf Classic, in support of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.
“Being a Regina boy, it’s nice to give back,” said Eberle, who now resides in Calgary. “I still have lots of family here and I try to get back as much as I can. Hewie and Silly are guys I looked up to growing up. They followed the same path as me as far as playing for the (WHL’s Regina) Pats and then moving on to the NHL. To actually be a part of (Shooting Stars) is kind of a no-brainer.”

Oilers Well Represented at the 2012 Worlds

The Edmonton Oilers have two first overall players and a third one this summer but it is Jordan Eberle making headlines in the post season. Eblere was surely an easy pick for Team Canada and the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Sweden and Finland and now that pick is paying off.

Oilers 2011-12 Season: The Good

The Edmonton Oilers’ season did not go the way that many had expected, but somehow things have worked out. The team starred the season off with rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game and then also the game winning shootout goal in the team’s home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nugent-Hopkins would go on to win the rookie of the month title for the month of October while netminders Nikolai Khabibulin and Devan Dubnyk would put up unreal numbers of their own and Khabibulin would be named the NHL third star of the same month. Things may have gone downhill from there, but this was a far more exciting season than years previous.

Jordan Eberle Nominated for Lady Byng

The Edmonton Oilers will not be raising any banners earned from this season to the rafters of Rexall Place, but now two players have the possibility of raising a trophy. Last week it was announced that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was a finalist for the Calder Trophy and now Jordan Eberle has been selected as a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. While the Lady Byng may not be the award midget or even junior players dream of winning it is still a prestigious award that has been handed out to a very impressive and talented list of players.

Oilers beat Blue Jackets 6-3 in rare afternoon victory
It is official, the last place team has been determined and for the first time in three years, it’s not the Edmonton Oilers. Of course speaking to some Columbus fans in the stands, they believe that they will not be lucky enough to actually draft first overall. To that I say, you just never know.
This Oilers win also means that the Oilers are no longer the worst Canadian team, at least for now, and because they are now tied for 71 points with the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders.

Oilers lose 3-2 to Coyotes
It was close, so close. The Oilers nearly had their first victory over the Phoenix Coyotes of the season, even if it was during their last meeting of the season. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. After taking a two goal second period lead, the Oilers finally succumbed to the Yotes in the third period and lost in the shootout.

Eberle Hits 30

As we all know, the Edmonton Oilers finished 30th. Two years in a row. Shockingly, the first time around there was still a 32 goal scorer on the team; Dustin Penner. The second time, the top goal scorer on an injury riddled team was Taylor Hall with 22. This season and in early March, Jordan Eberle has defied expectations and hit 30 goals in 62 games. Of course Eberle leads the Oilers in scoring. The best part is, he’s not done yet and the Oilers will not finish 30th.
