It’s been two back to back overtime victories, but with those victories the Barons have now taken a 2-1 series lead over the San Antonio Rampage. After dropping the first game 6-4 the Barons regrouped and settled into the knowledge that this would be a hard fought best of 7 series.
There may not have been any dancing by Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstom yet, but maybe he’s just waiting for his song.
The Edmonton Oilers have activated Ryan Nugent-Hopkins from the injured reserve list and assigned Anton Lander to the Oklahoma City Barons today. Nugent-Hopkins has been practising and taking contact with the team this week an has been anxious to return to the running for the Calder Trophy.
Following the Taylor Hall injury update, news that Ben Eager has some injury woes and Anton Lander took a maintenance day, the Edmonton Oilers have recalled centreman Ryan O’Marra from the Oklahoma City Barons. First round pick O’Marra was acquired by the Oilers as part of the package in the trade of Ryan Smyth to the New York Islanders on NHL trade deadline day 2007. During his time with the Oilers, O’Marra has played 24 NHL games, 24 ECHL games and 240 AHL games.
Oilers lose 5-2 to Senators
So how about that Nail kid? He sounds like he could be great, and “fail for nail” has a certain je ne sais quoi to it.
The Edmonton Oilers drop their fourth in a row, and lose even more defencemen while trade speculation for every healthy player reaches all new highs. It seems that things have returned to the “normal” of the past two seasons.
Oilers lose 3-0 to Red Wings
The Edmonton Oilers continue their challenging first road trip of November. This trip will see the Oilers play three of the four past four Stanley Cup champions. The Oilers of course didn’t fare well against the Boston Bruins on Thursday and the results of the game against the Red Wings could be seen as better for a number of reasons.
Oilers extend winning streak to 6 with 3-0 win over the Kings
The Edmonton Oilers began their six game road trip in Los Angeles against a team that featured several ex Oilers; Matt Greene, Jarret Stoll, Ethan Moreau, and most recent addition Dustin Penner. The Kings and their fans are of course unhappy with the Oilers due to Dustin Penner’s production with the team, that Ryan Smyth asked for a trade back to the Oilers, and that Colin Fraser has yet to play a game as a King. As the Oilers left Staples Centre, Kings’ fans were not any more pleased.
The Edmonton Oilers kicked off pre-season with split squad games in Edmonton against the Minnesota Wild and in Saskatoon against the Chicago Blackhawks. Both games were streamed online, but both games had technical difficulties, even after the games were over. As fantastic as technology is, it’s funny how it still disappoints. At this time an archived version of the games is not available.
The Edmonton Oilers are faced with new challenges this year, as well as returning old ones. The old challenges include goaltending and defence while the new challenges include who will play centre when it looks like the Oilers are well stocked.
Many Oilers fans have waited patiently for this day, and it has finally arrived. Anton Lander has arrived in Edmonton and is settling in. The welcomed Swedish invasion is reaching its new level and will hopefully continue with the addition of Oscar Klefbom soon enough.
Speaking with the media on Tuesday, the first Swede to make the Oilers, Magnus Pääjärvi was eager to speak of his good friend Lander who Pääjärvi of course eagerly anticipates playing with once again.
On Saturday July 30th, the Swedish Elite team Timrå had a farewell match for Edmonton Oilers prospect Anton Lander and Vancouver Canuck’s prospect Sebastian Erixon. As mentioned previously, these sorts of games are not uncommon in European sports, but are an excellent opportunity to learn more about your team’s prospects and just how beloved they are by their countrymen.
Once again with thanks to Yngve Elverhøi of Finland, we have a translation of the game and its results.
The return of Henrik Zetterberg for such a match speaks to his love for his country, and perhaps even the ties he feels to the other players and his old team. This loyalty may go a long way even with Anton Lander and Magnus Pääjärvi, ex-teammates, soon to be reunited. At the draft, Oscar Klefbom was extremely excited at the prospect of playing for a team with so many fellow Swedes.
As Oilers’ fans, some of us have that uncanny ability to get a little ahead of ourselves; I may in fact lead the pack in this regard. When I think of a close knit group of players, I think about winning. I don’t even want to tell you what I picture after winning. Not yet.
About Oil Patch
Lisa McRitchie is a fairly new writer, online at least, but makes up for inexperience with passion for the game of hockey and memories of Mrs. Leskiw’s English AP class; who knew they would pay off one day.
Oil Patch focuses on the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Oil Kings, The Oklahoma City Barons and Team Canada Hockey with game coverage, news updates, speculation and interviews.
Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
