Orange & Black Breakdown

Harry Z and Cooter drop their G-cards

(Sorry I’m not sorry if this page gets some extra hits thanks to the porn-esque title)

One helluva game if you are a Flyers fan.  Only line to not have 2 of its forwards score was the 2nd line.  Danny missed on one gift-wrapped chance thanks to a heads up play by Phillips.  Without further ado, Vindisi is back with some quick hits and food for thought.

She’s a beaut, boys

7’s are wild: A 7 game winless streak in Ottawa (which was the longest winless streak away from home) since 2007 is now out the door courtesy of 7 goals by 7 different Flyers.

Every Flyer received a point except for Briere. He doesn’t look like himself on that line, which is strange because Simmonds and Voracek are both fast, powerful skaters.  We have to hope that they will gel sooner than later, but finding the right fit as linemates has been a recurring theme for Danny ever since he came from Buffalo

What more can we say about Matt Read. He single-handedly made this game a blowout in the first period with his 3 points.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see him and Briere on the same line at some point this year.  My thinking is that Schenn will ultimately end up centering Wayne and Jake when he gets the call up.

Last, but not least: solid game from Bob. Hopefully, he finds the right allergy cream so that he could eventually post his first career NHL shutout because he seems to be avoiding it like the plague.

What have we learned tonight: The Senators are awful. The Flyers got out alive before having that awful stench affect them.  The Senators failed to show up in the first period giving up 4 goals and only tallying 3 shots.  I feel bad for them now, but that will abruptly end if they gain the prized possession of Nail Yakupov in the 2012 NHL draft.

Side note: Just a little perspective on how good this guy is.  Last season, while playing for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL, he put up numbers that have never been seen before. He tallied 101 points in 65 games with almost half of his points being for goals.  In comparison, Steven Stamkos tacked on 92 points when he was the same age in the OHL.  Let’s just say this could be just what the doctor ordered for those starving fans in Canada’s capital.

Bold prediction by the end of the month: Hartnell suffers until he is reunited with Danny Boy.  Can you blame him for missing that face?

Hartnell misses Briere. Briere misses Hartnell.

What a stupid head line.

Way to give photo credit and oh, that email field is NOT optional.

You’re right Moose.  With that here are our final edits:

Headline: Harry Z finishes off right after Cooter to top off the Senators

I credit the photo to the rookies for scoring their firsts on the same night.  Job well done boys.

The email being optional is bogus.  Nothing I can do to fix it.

About Orange & Black Breakdown

The Orange & Black Breakdown looks to be the ultimate, around the clock source for news and information on the Philadelphia Flyers organization and it’s ever-present quest for the Stanley Cup. Focusing on what the team can do to achieve success is the ultimate goal.

The OBB is written and maintained by myself - Marc Siciliano. I’m a college graduate and media production professional in the sports industry with credits on projects like Hard Knocks: Bengals and 24/7 Penguins vs. Capitals: Road to the Winter Classic. A man of many hobbies, I always seem to find a way to spend a disproportionate amount of my daily routine with two things: Flyers hockey and social media (much to the dismay of my hockey impartial friends on twitter).

So what does this mean for you? The plan is to combine these time-wasting habits passions with my love for writing to provide you with complete coverage of the Flyers from both my head and around the web, 24/7.

This is my second writing stint focusing on the Flyers, but for a much larger audience - so do be gentle. Different perspectives and opinions on the organization are welcome and encouraged. Just because I see it one way doesn’t mean I’m beyond seeing it your way as well, so speak up!

I’m always interested in interacting with readers, so find me on twitter (@marcs797) or email me (theobbreakdown@gmail.com) and let’s talk hockey.

Thanks for reading; Lets go Flyers!
