After a very exciting Owner’s Tournament for the Jackets they will be experiencing a rare occurrence in the NHL with a split squad game tomorrow. Their opponent will be the Winnipeg Jets, even though most of the coverage online still has a Atlanta Thrashers logo still in place. At the end of last season and after more than ten years the Jets returned to Winnipeg after the Thrashers ran into financial hardships. Tomorrow the citizens of Manitoba will be glued to their television sets and radios as the puck finally drops again in Winnipeg an hour and a half after it does in Columbus.
As for Columbus, hockey is burning in our hearts. The turnout for the Owners’ tournament was massive.
With all the seats in the Ice Haus taken most of us were standing as we watched the Jackets beat the snot of out each other in the final game. Don’t get me wrong this was a friendly game but that didn’t stop players from giving it their all. Even the hosers (cheerleaders) were working on the crowd with “Let’s Go Jackets!” chants, which seemed redundant. I instead cheered “Let’s Go!”
In the end Team Wolfe with Matt Calvert, Antoine Vermetter, R.J. Umberger, James Wisniewski and Steve Mason overcame Team Pizzuti with Rick Nash, Derick Brassard, Jared Boll, Kris Russell and Mark Dekanich by a score of 5-2. The score was only lopsided by the two empty netters in the final minute of play. For the play by play click here. As for the teams click here.
Check back for a preview of tomorrow’s preseason game that begins in Columbus at 7pm est. and Winnipeg at 8:30pm est. You can watch the game in Columbus on their website if you can’t seem to find another way to view it.
