NCAA Prospects Weekly Roundup

Anders Lee is off to a very hot start for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Lee is making an early season push to vault himself into Hobey Baker contention.  If Lee continues his early season pace, it certainly looks like whenever he decides to turn pro that he won’t be spending much time, if any, in the minors.  Lee is certainly physically ready to play in the NHL and in only his sophomore season is honing his skills quite well in South Bend.

Anders Lee-Notre Dame-Lee recorded his second career hat trick in a 5-2 victory over Rensselaer to open up the new sparkling Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend.  Lee scored one goal in each of the three periods for the Irish.  Lee currently leads the nation in goals and has 11 points-eight goals and three assists in only five games.  The Irish travel to Bowling Green for a two game tilt this weekend.

Brock Nelson-University of North Dakota-Nelson registered two shots on goal in Friday night’s 5-3 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers.  On Saturday night, UND lost a hard fought 5-4 battle against the Badgers.  Nelson had a fantastic game on Saturday night and scored one goal and added two assists.  Nelson registered five shots on goal on Saturday and finished a +1.  UND looks to rebound this weekend with two games at home against St. Cloud State.

Corey Trivino-Boston University-The BU Terriers only played one game this past weekend-a 5-4 loss to Holy Cross.  Trivino registered two assists in the loss and finished a +2 on the night.  BU plays a home and home series with Massachusetts this weekend.

Jason Clark-University of Wisconsin-Clark is still catching up on his conditioning and my guess is that he will be back in the lineup within the next couple of weeks.  The Badgers host Nebraska-Omaha for two games in the Kohl Center this weekend and then travel to St. Cloud State the following weekend.

Scott Mayfield-University of Denver-DU dominated Minnesota State this weekend with a 4-2 victory on Friday night followed by a 10-2 victory on Saturday night.  Mayfield scored a goal on Saturday night, registered three shots on goal, and finished a +2.  DU travels to Houghton, Michigan for two games against Michigan Tech this weekend.

He could join the Isles after the NCAA season ends.  Its not unprecedented.

BR:  If he continues to play like this the rest of the season he might very well do so.  You are right, it’s not unprecedented at all and many players have done so even after not so strong seasons.  Lee is a beast.  I can’t wait to see what he does the rest of the season.
