Via Marie Hallman and the Free Press’s Helene St. James, Risto Pakarinen reports that the Swedish Eliteserien has taken a stand against signing NHL’ers to half or quarter-season lockout contracts:
SWE Elitserien sticks to its rules: players have to stay entire season. Not about to sign NHLers in event of lockout. bit.ly/R3AxO5

And if you don’t want the translated version of Hockeyligan.se’s announcement (monetary issues, pushing home-grown players out of jobs, etc. etc.), Marie makes a hugely important point about a fact of life that will make finding part-time European employment difficult for each and every one of the NHL’s players—insurance issues:

@georgemalik yeah but also no surprise. I dont know if there is money to salaries and insurances and what should clubs to to the players
Marie says that European teams have to worry about stepping on Rene Fasel’s toes as well:

@georgemalik Then there was the IIHF and NHL deal, that says last date to cross over is 15th of June hockeyligan thinks letting the NHL

@georgemalik players in would be violating their own deal with the NHL

Switzerland, and Thornton and Nash shot that rumor down.
And the NHL-IIHF player transfer agreement for European players stipulates that any movement between the two leagues must take place before June 15th, with the exception of recently-drafted players, who may sign NHL deals until…I believe it’s July 15th.

Just curious if the NHL can negotiate on behalf of the players if no CBA is in place? Post September 15, the rules would change wouldn’t they? At that point the players no longer have a contract with the NHL.

How ‘bout they just get their sh!ts together, hammer out a new CBA and get to playing some hockey on time this year and nobody would have to worry ‘bout it.

Thorton & nash agreed to play for HC Davos in the Swiss league. They won a championchip there during the last lockout.

Both players’ agents have denied that they’re heading to Switzerland.

Wasn’t Thornton and Nash gonna play in SEL if lockout?
