Update: MLive’s Brendan Savage confirms that Helm has had surgery: Per NHL.com’s stream of coach Mike Babcock’s presser, Red Wings forward Darren Helm had surgery on his left forearm—for what, Babcock wouldn’t say, though it’s not hard to imagine that it involved cut tendons—after he suffered a skate cut from Alex Radulov in the 1st period of Detroit’s 3-2 loss to Nashville. He’s definitely out for the series…

and on Radulov’s skate. That guy shouldn’t even be in the NHL this year.

This is bad, for sure. I just hope the injury is not as severe as it might be.
Get well soon!

I’ve often wanted a t-shirt that said, “F*ck f*ckity f*ck f*ck.” I think that statement summarizes my feelings regarding Darren Helm’s injury as well.

One of the posters at Winging it in Motown (Josh, screen name Apocalyptic0n3) actually had surgery for a torn tendon. He’s at eight weeks right now and in his words “couldn’t hold a hockey stick if his life depended on it.” Just making a fist causes muscle spasms, and he may have lifetime damage and trouble gripping objects, etc.
I think it’s safe to assume Helm is done for the playoffs if the tendons are torn and his injury is more than just a deep cut.

Holly crap, again with the skate cut. Hope Helm can make a full recovery no matter how long it takes.

Am I alone in thinking that we didn’t see this many skate cut injuries under the pre-lockout regime?
