Despite the fact that the above message is usually accompanied by instructions for a very simple solution (“please refresh your browser”), droves of Zynga game players feel impatience and even rage when they see that. It means that the game is probably loading slowly to begin with because the programmers made some change or another, and simply clicking “refresh” will mean more waiting and may not even solve the problem.
So when I thought the Sharks seem just a little out of sync, it was with mixed emotions. You don’t know really how long it will take to get everyone moving in harmony, even if you know that this is all that’s needed. The pieces are there, they just need to be pulled together.
Despite the continued losses, I don’t see the team backsliding. They were not worse, they might have even been a little better Monday night than they were the game before. I could be seeing things through a biased lens, but I thought some players actually had a good game against the Ducks. Certainly Thornton looked better. Not all he can be, but fewer mistakes, more composure. McGinn seemed confident and purposeful out there, didn’t take penalties, made himself useful. Desi took more penalties than usual. Well, that’s what I meant by out of sync.
Burns appeared more in tune with the team, though he and Boyle on the power play seem the farthest from being in tune. That doesn’t seem like a fair evaluation: I expect more from them, I imagine they should be able to get it together faster than others. But if you raise the bar it might take longer to reach it.
How do you get a group in sync? Actually, it is a little like refreshing the browser, but with more physical effort: you start over.
“..It’s always go back to basics, simplify your game and get back to hard work each and every shift.” -Joe Thornton, quoted by Working the Corners
As Thornton approaches his 1000th game, I sure hope he knows how to do that. The basics should be pretty familiar by now.
Monday’s loss represented three in a row, three regulation losses out of four games to start the season. This hasn’t happened since 2002. I wonder how much of a difference there is, in terms of team psychology, between a regulation loss and an OT loss. Sure, you get a point out of the OT loss, but really, don’t these guys want to win all the time? Is the team repeating last season’s start or 2002’s? We will see Friday if there has been any marked changed in their cohesiveness, their ability to read and react to each other.
All but Niemi and Murray, who took “maintenance days,” skated Tuesday, shortly after a team meeting.
McLellan was in a very communicative mood. He had a good deal to say in colorful terms to start things out.
Havlat left a bit early, it turns out that was to catch a plane to Cleveland. Some time after the team stated he would not have to see the doctor, I guess, they decided that since he was flying east anyway for the road trip, an extra stop to see the doctor would be a good idea. That’s how it seems to have come about.
Wednesday, Harri Sateri was reassigned from Stockton to Worcester, and Thomas Heemskerk was sent to Stockton. According to Pollak’s blog entry linked above, Sateri was kept in Stockton just in case Niemi wasn’t as ready to go as he was believed to be. Interestingly, I hear on the Twitter wire that Sexsmith has had a pretty good start in Worcester. Even though Sateri was always slated for the AHL team, he may meet more competition than earlier expected. That’s always good.
Seems like there was some tension on the flight to New Jersey today:
@ryaneclowe29: “We haven’t even taking off yet and my seat mate @Burnzie88 is already ignoring me yfrog.com/18jv1cj”
@Burnzie88: “How can I talk to @ryaneclowe29 when he always has his mouth full? yfrog.com/h6y4syq3j”
Looks like the bonding thing is going swimmingly, with pictures and everything. The Sharks are all settled in now:
@Burnzie88: “Me and roomy just going to town in the cave we call a room playing tiger woods on iPad #gr8freeapp #nerds”
If only we had news about that visit to Cleveland. Tomorrow, surely tomorrow.

About Petshark: Talking Stick
Native of Northern California. Hockey fan since 1998... sort of... there's a hiatus in there that I still can't explain.
I want to know about anything and everything related to the sport and the spectacle. I watch, I react, I write it down.
My interest in the Sharks was initially a matter of geographic convenience and regional loyalty because that seemed to be how it worked. I had no prior interest (at all-- AT ALL) in professional sports of any kind. When I met hockey, it might have set off a chain reaction of general sports fandom. It hasn't, I don't think it will. At all.
Since then, that interest developed into full blown (mostly sort of usually almost completely) exclusive loyalty to the Sharks.
I started blogging a couple years ago on wordpress. I still occasionally put things there that I don't think fit here because they are not about the Sharks. Wherever my words wander, here on Kuklas Korner, they will (usually) hang on to a teal thread.
