Ryan Strome, the fifth overall selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, has been assigned by the New York Islanders to the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL. Strome played in three preseason games for the Islanders. Strome had a monster season in the OHL in 2010-2011. Strome was third in the OHL in scoring with 106 points-33 goals and 73 assists in 65 games. He was named the Most Improved Player in the OHL. Strome was also named to the OHL Second All-Star Team last season.
This move is no surprise at all, as Strome was expected to be assigned well before the nine game mark. If Strome would have stayed with the Islanders after nine games, he would have used up one year of his NHL entry-level contract.
