NCAA Prospects Weekly Roundup

Brock Nelson is on a roll for UND and Anders Lee continued his strong start to the season this past weekend.  Fellow prospects Corey Trivino and Scott Mayfield battled it out on Saturday night in a top-10 match-up that pitted Trivino’s 7th ranked BU Terriers against Mayfield’s 3rd ranked DU Pioneers.  Mayfield’s squad came out on top in a hard fought 4-2 DU victory.

Anders Lee-Notre Dame-The Irish opened up conference play by splitting two games at home this past weekend against Ohio State.  Lee played a great game on Friday night as he scored two goals and added an assist and registered seven shots on goal in a 5-2 ND victory.  On Saturday night, Lee scored one goal and added an assist as he led a furious rally in the third period that fell just short as the Irish lost a hard fought game 4-3.  Notre Dame hosts Rensselaer on Friday night in their first game in the brand new Compton Family Ice Arena.  In four games played this season, Lee has tallied eight points-five goals and three assists.

Brock Nelson-University of North Dakota-UND beat 17th ranked Maine on Friday night 3-1 and finished their weekend with a 3-3 tie on Saturday against the Black Bears.  Nelson registered one assist in Saturday night’s game and recorded two shots on goal after a stellar Ice Breaker Tournament last weekend.  UND travels to Madison this weekend for two games against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Kohl Center.

Corey Trivino-Boston University-BU recorded a huge victory over 3rd ranked Denver on Saturday night at home after losing a road tilt to Providence 5-3 on Friday night.  Trivino scored a goal against Providence and also scored a shorthanded goal on Saturday against Denver to put the Terriers up 2-0 in the second period.  Trivino has scored three goals so far this season and is playing some good, solid hockey for the Terriers.  BU only plays one game this weekend as they host Holy Cross on Saturday night.

Jason Clark-University of Wisconsin-Through email correspondence last week, Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal told me the following: “Spoke with Mike Eaves a few minutes ago. He said that while Jason is 100 percent healthy to practice, he’s roughly two weeks behind everyone else in terms of conditioning. Eaves said once Clark closes that gap he’ll be in the mix.”  Clark didn’t play the first two weekends, but should be back in the lineup within the next couple of weeks.

Scott Mayfield-University of Denver-DU recorded a huge victory against top ranked BC on Friday night.  Mayfield recorded an assist in the game and finished a +2.  Mayfield battled against fellow Islanders prospect Corey Trivino on Saturday night in a top-10 matchup.  Denver scored three goals in the third period, but their rally fell short as they lost to BU 4-3.  DU hosts two games this weekend against Minnesota State in Magness Arena.

Cody Rosen-Clarkson University-Rosen hasn’t registered any ice time this season with Clarkson, but should be the starting goaltender next season.  Senior goalie Paul Karpowich is a very solid goaltender for Clarkson and has started every game this season.
