Islanders and Bailey Go Down To The Wire, But Agree To Deal

From the NY Islanders Official Website:

The New York Islanders announced today that Josh Bailey has agreed to terms on a two-year deal.  Bailey, 21, scored 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 70 games last year during his third National Hockey League season. In three years with the Islanders, the Bowmanville, ON, native has totaled 34 goals and 54 assists (88 points) in 211 games. The Islanders selected Bailey in the first round, ninth overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the Ontario Hockey League for three years with the Windsor Spitfires and Owen Sound Attack.

TII Thoughts:  I figured that Bailey and the Isles would finally agree to terms on a deal.  As stated yesterday, I figured at this point in negotiations that it would be some sort of a short-term deal.  Reports are that the deal is worth $2.1 million.  The contract is a good deal for both sides.  It is a very low risk contract for the Isles with a potentially very high reward.  If Bailey reaches his full potential within the next couple of seasons, the deal will have great value for the Isles and it will give Bailey the chance to sign a longer term deal worth more money.  The past few days have been great for the Islanders.  Now everyone can focus on hockey as the start of training camp is finally upon us!
