Beauchemin’s Hit On Fisher
by Paul on 10/30/11 at 11:42 AM ET

from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,
Beauchemin might face a hearing this morning with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan after dropping Predators center Mike Fisher in the latter half of the first period with a hit in the neutral zone.
Fisher suffered what the Predators called an “upper-body injury” and did not return to the game. But it was a hit that the rugged blue-liner and the Ducks ardently believe was clean in nature.
“I’m just hoping he’s OK,” Beauchemin said. “Because that’s just one of those fast plays that happens. Just a hit shoulder to shoulder. That’s what the league is looking at and I really had my arm tucked in. (No) elbow. Nothing.
“Maybe the point of the impact of his head on the ice hurt him more than anything else.”
Beauchemin did get two minutes for an illegal check to the head, watch the video and you can decide what is next….

LLL - Breaking Down the Beauchemin Trade
by Shiv on 02/09/11 at 09:14 PM ET
Comments (3)

This trade did not happen because of Lupul.
In a one for one trade, Beauchemin can fetch a better player than Lupul from another team.
Brian Burke knows this.
What Burke also knows though is that there aren’t any teams out there that would give up a prospect like Jake Gardiner on top of a player like Lupul and a pick for a player like Beauchemin.
That is the trade in a nut shell.
So who is Jake Gardiner?

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Francois Beauchemin from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for right wing Joffrey Lupul and defenseman Jake Gardiner.
“We are thrilled to be able to reacquire Francois,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “He is a physical, puck-moving defenseman with tremendous character. We would also like to wish Joffrey Lupul well in Toronto. He’s worked very hard to return from a serious ailment and we hope he can get his career back on track.”

LLL - Where Were the Leafs on Wojtek Wolski?
by Shiv on 01/11/11 at 05:35 PM ET

Just over a month ago, the Washington Capitals traded Left Wing Tomas Fleischmann (or is he a Center, Pierre McGuire?) to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Scott Hannan. Many would contend that Washington lost that trade – surely they could have gotten a better return on Flash.
George McPhee, of course, had his reasons for making the trade. The main reason? Bringing in a defensive defenseman to solidify the Capitals’ play in their own zone.
Leaf Nation – plagued by the idea that every player available through trade or free agency will come to Toronto – wondered why Brian Burke couldn’t have traded Francois Beauchemin to land Fleischmann.
McPhee went with Hannan for one obvious reason though: Hannan’s contract expires this season, allowing the Capitals to free up the cap room from his $4.5 Million contract to sign Alexander Semin.
We did not have what Washington wanted. Leaf Nation can accept that.
Fast forward a month later and this time the New York Rangers acquire Wojtek Wolski from the Phoenix Coyotes for Michael Rozsival. This is less than a year after Phoenix traded Peter Mueller to acquire Wolski from the Colorado Avalache.

Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky will undergo tests today to determine if he sustained any more damage Thursday during a third-period fight with Anaheim’s Francois Beauchemin.
Kopecky, his right cheek swollen, said he felt OK and his vision was good after Beauchemin battered him with a flurry of punches. Kopecky will have X-rays and a CT scan….
“When you take a punch to the head it’s always scary, so we’ll see,’’ Kopecky said. “Right now I don’t know (the damage). I feel all right.’‘

Beauchemin Returns To Form

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,
Three games into his return from reconstructive surgery on his left knee, Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin has shaken off any sense of hesitance or rustiness.
“Everyday feels strong. No setback, no pain,” said Beauchemin, who missed 62 games and nearly five months.
His teammates feel even better about having his physicality back in the lineup for the playoffs, when they need it most.
“I’ve been a bit surprised how he’s stepped in and played as well as he has,” Scott Niedermayer said Sunday as the Ducks prepared for Game 2 tonight at HP Pavilion.
“He was down for a long time. He doesn’t look like he’s really missed a beat. It looks like he’s been there all year. It’s been good for us, for sure. He’s played three games, and they’ve all been good.”

With The Return Of Beauchemin, Ducks Get Better
by Paul on 04/10/09 at 05:39 PM ET

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,
Barring a setback, (Francois) Beauchemin will join them Friday night, and the Ducks suddenly don’t look like anybody’s idea of a walk in the playoff park.
“I’m pretty excited about it,” Beauchemin told ESPN.com. “I’ve been feeling really strong.”
Although he does not boast the profile of the Ducks’ other twin defensive giants, captain Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger, Beauchemin’s contributions to the Ducks’ emergence as a league power cannot be underestimated. During the Ducks’ run to the Cup in 2007, he averaged an incredible 30:33 a night in ice time during the playoffs.

from the Anaheim Ducks,
Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the third period of last night’s game vs. Nashville. Beauchemin underwent an MRI exam this afternoon which revealed the injury. He is expected to miss approximately six months.
“This is an unfortunate injury for Francois and we feel badly for him,” said Anaheim Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “However, knowing his character as a player and person, we know he will rebound from this and return to the ice at full strength. Our team has faced adversity before and we expect everyone to step up in his absence.”
