Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,
No NHL team is younger, on average, than the Avalanche. It is a team with the presumed favorite to win the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 19-year-old Gabriel Landeskog. It is a team whose prospects in the minor, junior and college ranks were recently rated the fourth-best in the NHL by a panel of scouts polled by The Hockey News. It is a team with a lot to look forward to.
And yet, the Avs have a chance to win now too. They’ve moved up to the No. 8 seed, or last playoff spot, in the Western Conference with their strong play of the past two weeks.
The baby-faced Avs say they are focused on the immediate future, and a playoff run, not on where the franchise will be in a year or two.
“We want to make the playoffs just as much as the older guys or any other team,” Landeskog said. “Even though we’re young and we’ve got bright years ahead of us, we live in the moment. We don’t want to wait.”
