You would think if a team is good enough to make the Stanley Cup final, it should be considered a Cup contender the next year. But Edmonton hasn’t made the playoffs since losing to Carolina in the post-lockout season. Ottawa hasn’t made it out of the first round since falling to Anaheim in 2007. Detroit has not been past the second round since losing to Pittsburgh in 2009. And Philadelphia ripped its roster apart this summer, a year after its final loss to Chicago in 2010. Vancouver’s biggest challenge this season is beating the odds.
