The KHL strikes back…sort of…

Every June, the KHL’s teams snag one or two NHL’ers and spend the next month telling the Russian press how said signings prove that they’re finally on even-footing with the NHL, despite the fact that their teams remain almost wholly subsidized by sponsors.

And off they go, per Sportsnet’s Chris Nichols...

#NYR Mats Zuccarello signs deal w/ KHL’s Mettalurg Magnitogorsk. 1 year deal w/ 1 year option and NHL out clause. Per @KatieStrangESPN

And Sport-Express’s Slava Malamud:

Sport-Express reports that CSKA’s talks with Alex Radulov are “at the home stretch stage.” #Preds
Earlier this week CSKA signed Igor Radulov, presumably as a leverage tool in talks with his younger brother. #Preds

No word as to whether this one, from Steven Ellis, will make the same waves:

Blue Jackets Dman Brett Lebda is close to signing a contract with Barys Astana of the KHL. How will Columbus manage?

Wow, a decent young guy with an NHL out clause, a pariah and a utility d-man nobody will miss.

I’m guessing the press conference announcing the folding of the NHL is imminent.
