The Improving Southeast Division

from Katie Carrera of Capitals Insider,

Every team in the division has gotten better,” Coach Bruce Boudreau said. “The 24 games we play within the division are not going to be easy for us. For the most part, we’re a very similar team to what we were, so they will know what they’re facing whereas, with some of these teams that have changed more than the others, we’re facing the unknown.”

No team may have altered the landscape more than Tampa Bay as new owner Jeff Vinik brought in Steve Yzerman, who has simultaneously bolstered the franchise’s credibility while overhauling its on- and off-ice personnel in his first few months as general manager.

I agree. That division is turning into the NHL black sheep. The national hockey league has had a steady increase over the last five years. The salary cap is now almost 60 million. Most of the reason why the league has grown so much in the past few years is due to hockey becoming popular again in natural northern markets.

Washington, Pittsburgh and Chicago are three cities which hockey teams have grown substantially in popularity. Having those northern markets as hockey hot spots is beneficial for the whole league.

Toronto is still doing good in popularity. We just need a winning team and well be all set. Haha
