Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun of ESPN discuss the Battle of Ontario along with other topics which include…
Burnside: The Colorado Avalanche are still in the mix in the Western Conference just a point out of eighth place. They’re in an interesting position given that both netminders Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Semyon Varlamov have played well at times, although Varlamov is coming off a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday. Varlamov didn’t speak after the game and, for my money, he’s still got a lot of growing up to do if he’s going to be the franchise goalie GM Greg Sherman hoped he would be when he acquired him from Washington last summer.
As for the Panthers, just as they were starting to get healthy—the return of Marcel Goc was a big boost to the Southeast Division-leading Panthers and veteran netminder Jose Theodore is ready to roll again—veteran defenseman Ed Jovanovski goes out with a hand injury sustained while fighting Daniel Paille of the Bruins on Monday. Ouch. Their visit to Denver Wednesday is the first of a three-game road trip that takes them to Chicago and Winnipeg. This is the part of the season where lots of folks are expecting the Panthers to fade back into the NHL woodwork.
more plus some Ducks talk too…
