Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Mark Emmons of the Mercury News,
After Saturday’s 6-3 victory over Phoenix, the Sharks find themselves with five off-days—a curious stretch of inactivity at the beginning of an NHL campaign.
When the Sharks finally do start playing again, the pace inexplicably kicks into overdrive. Before October ends, San Jose will have played three back-to-backs and wrapped up a convoluted, six-game Eastern swing.
For now, the Sharks’ primary concern is making sure no rust forms on their skate blades. McLellan is keeping his promise of “work, work and more work” in practice this week. Nevertheless, the Sharks, whose stated objective is getting off to a strong start, would have preferred getting into a steady rhythm of games.
“It’s not by my design, because I don’t like it,” McLellan said of the early schedule. “But the last thing I’m going to do is whine and let that serve as the lead, so our team can whine. We play when the league tells us to play.”
