Report- Flames Looking To Move Salary

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

• There are more than a couple of contracts Flames GM Jay Feaster would like to burn.

Two league sources told QMI Agency that Feaster is desperately trying to get money off the books.

Not only would Feaster move struggling C Olli Jokinen in a heartbeat, the word around the league is the Flames have been shopping C Matt Stajan, W Niklas Hagman and D David Moss….

• An NHL executive on the amount of trade talk going on right now: “There’s actually a lot of teams talking for this time of year. I don’t think you’re going to see anything shake down until the end of the month.”

• Vancouver GM Mike Gillis, an avid fan of this space, has been busy working the phones as well. No, he’s not looking to move G Roberto Luongo, as so many on West Coast wish he was, but he is trying to deal a defenceman. The belief is Gillis would trade D Keith Ballard. Good luck with four years left with a cap hit of $4.2 million a season.

David Moss is F, not D Mr. Garrioch. I also don’t think the fact that Feaster is shopping the aforementioned players is much of a shock considering he has been shopping them since the Bruins hoisted the Cup. Feaster is on record saying he wants money off the books but at the same time he knows that come July 1, 2012 he will clear around $14m off the books.

And if I seem cranky it’s because the Flames mailed in another stinker tonight versus the Leafs :(.

REPORT: Water wet, sky blue, sun possibly hot (unconfirmed)

The Flames are always looking to shed salary so they can surround Iginla with more talent and then almost immediately trading for or signing a plethora of mediocre players who are overpaid so the cycle can repeat itself.  Their whole dance with Jokinen never stops being funny.

“He was named GM in July 2007 and the Jackets have yet to make the playoffs.”

Err, didn’t they make it in 2009?
