Power Play Problems In Toronto

from Michael Traikos of the National Post,

It does not seem to make sense on paper. The Toronto Maple Leafs have the NHL’s leading scorer in Phil Kessel. Defenceman Dion Phaneuf has one of the hardest slap shots in the league. Fellow blue-liner John-Michael Liles has averaged 40 points during his career. And yet, once again, the Leafs have one of the league’s worst power plays.

Toronto scored twice with the man-advantage against the Ottawa Senators in the second game of the season. But in their three other games, they have gone 0-for-12. Combined, the team’s power play entered Tuesday 23rd in the NHL with a 9.5% success rate.

“I don’t know what it is,” forward Joffrey Lupul said. “It seems that we have the personnel to be successful. I don’t know if it’s an Xs and Os type thing or we’re just having bad luck.”

I know of a team that wears a winged wheel logo with a 5% on their power play…

Toronto is the worst coached team in the league.  Now that they have players capable this will become more evident as the season moves on.  Any success the players have is despite Wilson.
