Possible Dallas Trade Plans

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News does an email Q & A with his readers…

Do you get any sense there is a even a chance the Stars could get Rick Nash?

I do, actually. I think the Stars have some nice things that they could trade, and I think Joe Nieuwendyk has enough respect that he could convince Nash this is a program in the upswing—new owner, new coach, strong history, lots of cap space.

The other thing I think you have to consider is how difficult it is to get a player of his level. There may only be Zach Parise out there in the summer, and then it’s back to trading again.

I think when a player like this is available, you have to make a strong pitch, and I think Joe Nieuwendyk will.

Biggest name you think could be on their way out of Dallas?

I think you have to shop Mike Ribeiro and Steve Ott around and see what the interest is. The Stars have to mind the salary floor so they can’t just gut the team, but you can move one of those players and try to get a very good return from a hungry team. That’s doable….
