Cheapshot Avery at it again.

Surprise?  Yes.

Cheapshot?  I’m not so sure.  It was sneaky, and MAYBE Smid wasn’t 100% ready, but you can’t say he wasn’t willing and waiting at the time.

Smid went after Avery, challenged him, and Avery eventually accepted.  It happens all the time in fights where guys drop them and start off before the other guy is square.  Just in this instance, the first punch was right on the button.

I was at the game. Not a cheap shot. Smid turned to face Avery started to drop the gloves, then turned away.

Probably whatever Smid said as he turned away precipitated the whole thing.

What really started this all is that once again a guy can’t throw a clean hard hit without someone challenging him to a fight!

Oilers can shut up.

Yet another time of a team dropping 6 or more on their sorry a**es.  How about the Oilers try playing defense at some point?

Last 4 games:

@ CAR (1-7) LOSS
@ DET (2-6) LOSS
@ NJD (3-4) OT LOSS
@ NYR (2-8) LOSS

Either they can man up and actually *play*, or quite frankly they deserve every single bit of disrespect they get right now.  And that includes from Avery—even though he’s a joke.

Still not as big a joke as Edmonton as a team and organization is right now.  Screw Oklahoma City, Edmonton should have gone straight to the AHL…

I don’t know why you’re mad at me.  You should be mad at the powers-that-be for your own organization.  It’s not my fault (or my team’s fault) that free agents refuse to go to Edmonton, that the Oilers can’t draft, and that they’re basically a glorified farm system for the rest of the NHL.

But hey, thanks for taking the time to develop guys like Eberle, Dubnyk, and Hall.  I’m sure their 2nd NHL teams will appreciate the effort after they get out of town as quickly as possible.

Avery is the biggest D-Bag in this league. Tip-of-the-hat to Whitney for chirping him as he’s being tossed.

People really have to stop their blind hatred for Sean Avery.  He’s a very good hockey player, he’s an agitator who 9 times out of 10 will goad an opposing player into taking penalties.  Sure, sometimes he does some things that are uncalled for(the slash against the player on the Maple Leafs), but what player doesn’t have the occasional lapse of reason and do something stupid?

In this instance, Avery did absolutely nothing wrong.  The check was completely legal, from the side…as proven by the fact that the player who was on the receiving end of the hit, got up and continued playing.  This guy Smid thought he was going to be big and bad and challenge Sean Avery to a fight, and guess what?  He got knocked by one sneaky and SMART move by Avery.
