Watched it again and there are two Leafs jerseys, too. I think that adds up to the “you and 10 friends.”

So the Penguins fan definitely hugs the Flyers fan after the goal at the Stanley Cup game… and then gives Red Wings guy a little slap on the back. Blasphemy, but in service of an awesome commercial.

Yeah, I totally spent the whole commercial trying to figure out how they picked the jersey representations. Had they all been easily out of the playoffs, I wouldn’t have payed much attention honestly.
My bet is that they just picked some random franchises hoping they could use it for more than one season.

But the fact that Winnipeg is the most stoked city in the NHL, and just tanked at the crucial moment of the stretch-drive, certainly made the playoff teams like a confusing non sequitor.

Very nice. Humorous yet poignant.
I always wonder how they choose which teams are represented in this type of thing, though. Please understand that I’m not playing “the conspiracy card,” just curious.
I counted two Jets and Red Wings jerseys, and one each of the Canadiens, Leafs, Penguins, Flyers, Blackhawks and Panthers. Maybe I missed some or counted wrong, but the selection seems a little weird. First of all, it’s a Canadian commercial, so why no Canucks, Flames, Senators or Oilers? Why two of some teams? How/why was Winnipeg chosen as the “main mourner?” Were regional versions produced? Did individual teams have to approve the use of their jersey, or does approval for all come from the league?
Like I said, I enjoyed the ad and am not complaining in any way. It would just be interesting to understand how and why certain choices were made.
