Kukla's Korner

Kukla's Korner Hockey

Let’s Talk KK

note- original post was 7:30am on 4/28/11

The gameplan

Moving to a larger server sometime late June/early July timeframe.

A complete software upgrade which has been on hold will happen soon afterwards.

The facts

KK continues to grow or month to month and year to year pattern.

Costs increase as we grow, advertising income has improved slightly from two years ago but the direct advertising dollar is still hard to get.

I am putting in close to 18 hours a day on KK but thanks to Alanah and George, I am able to take some time off here and there.

The request

Two years ago in May, we held a KK Fund A Thon which produced fantastic results.

I am keeping my head above water and people must remember, I have no corporate backing, no long-term advertising relationships and any and all money used comes directly out of my pocket.

I live a simple life as many of the “19” can attest too.  I love what I do and feel there is much yet to attain.

With that in mind, please consider making a once every two year donation to Kukla’s Korner.  It is easy to do and any amount would help at this time.

Thanks and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Paul, thanks for providing this wonderful sandbox for all of us juveniles to play in. I know it takes time and hard work to run the site and keep all the stray cats, er,  trolls from pooping in the sandbox.

One question, why doesn’t the s code result in a strike text anymore?

Paul, 18 hours/day is an understatement, right? Ever since I found your site, it’s my primary source of news and Wings’ updates. Your team is great. Thanks for all the hardwork!

I’m expecting a solid night’s work under the bridge tonight, and a contribution will soon follow!

I rarely post anything…but Paul you do incredible work. I am fairly new to this site, but I am glad to donate for such incredible work! Seriously, the “19” are awesome and educated fans and it really makes my day to read all the articles and posts. I hope you will be able to gather enough money, because you truly deserve it

Thank you

Absolutely I’ll donate. You do one hell of a job here and have earned every cent. Thanks for everything and being so passionate about what you do.

And kudos too for Alanah and George especially, and the rest of the bloggers, for helping make this such an awesome website.

Always happy to help out.  Where else can we carry on in a way that would have most “moderators” censoring and banning people.  The freedom this site allows to say what we want, think and feel is and always has been the main reason i post here.

Stick Tap to Paul!

Paul, I’ll be donating shortly, though I do have one suggestion.

Have you thought about donation subscriptions?  They can be done through PayPal where people sign up and donate a set amount ($1, $3, $5, etc.) once a month. I do that for a podcast and a web comic, and I’d be more than willing to do that for this site, as I’d be getting more than my donation’s worth. It may help to even things out over the year.

That would be a brilliant idea. It would even out the inflow and not even be noticed. My workplace has donations to United Way set up via payroll deduction, and while donating one lump sum of $52 at pledge drive time might not work, subtract just $2 from each paycheck during the year and it isn’t even noticeable. Yet at the end of the year the amount gained is the same, and I know the participation is higher because it is so little to donate at one time.

I suspect quite a substantial proportion of the people who visit the site regularly would be willing to donate $2.50 a month for it, and the $30 annually compares very well with magazine subscriptions, which are probably read less often but a good comparable for the utility provided.

I’ve looked into the recurring subscriptions and the only thing holding me back is the fees that are charged by PayPal.

I would assume most people would subscribe at a monthly rate of $1.50 to $2.00.  At that rate, a 5% fee would be charged back to me so I am not really sure if it is worth it.

If I could get 2000 people to isubscribe, yes, not a problem, but if only 20 people apply, well it may not be the way to go.

Some feedback would be great.

I have added a “Subscription” option for those of you who would like to be billed on a monthly basis.

The minimum charge is $1.00, anything less would not be cost effective.

You can find this button on the right sidebar on the KK Homepage and also on the KK Hockey mainpage.

Thanks and let’s see how this works.
