Where are the Wings on this one. The Monster needs to be Jimmy’s backup this season

Why? There are plenty of free agent goalies out there that are UFA. The monster has been the definition of average the last few years and we have average in Macdonald, or can go get average in Turco or Montoya (still think Al’s better than average).

Well then, that signals to me that negotiations with Pavelec are still not going well.

Gustavsson’s a UFA too.  This deal doesn’t mean much.

There are going to be other free agent goalies available, but I would argue that Gustavsson’s numbers are influenced by the fact he’s playing for a shit team that is garbage defensively and routinely hangs their goalies out to dry.

I wish the best for Jonas. Maybe he can become the goalie he was before Francois Allaire tried to mold him in his own image

I’m not entirely sold on Allaire’s supposed genius.  Yes, his “magic” has worked for some guys, but for others (and I think Gustavsson is exhibit A), all he’s done is mess with their style mechanics.

Don’t be shocked if Gus has a period this season where he seems unable to stop a beachball, as he tries to figure out whether he should continue to implement the style he’s been converted to in Toronto, or whether he should just return to the style he played before.

Essentially, if he doesn’t stay on the path he’s been on these past 2 seasons (and really, why would he, now that Franky isn’t his goalie goach anymore?), then he’s wasted 2 years of his development.

It’s almost like he’s starting over.  I feel for him and wish him the best.

Whether that will mean he eventually turns out to be the goalie Burke once thought he might be ... well, that remains to be seen.
