I’m glad he got suspended but frankly, three games seems like a lot for someone with no history and a hit that didn’t result in any injury.

It was just a few months ago when everyone’s big complaint about Campbell’s wheel of justice was the fact that the punishment always seemed tied to the extent of the injury.

I can see going lenient on Cole for it being his first offense, I figured he’d get one game. But the fact that Abdelkader wasn’t hurt too badly is just luck. Just as easily he could be sharing a couch with Crosby for the next year. It should have nothing to do with the punishment.

Really wasn’t expecting the punishment to be this severe. Thought it would be 1 and MAYBE 2.

I’m not complaining so much as commenting on the reality, which is that Shanahan’s decisions seem very much to be tied to injury.  And also, indirectly, commenting on the idea that Shanahan’s decisions don’t really seem to be any more consistent than’t Campbell’s were.

Agree with the decisions or not, but being able to see these videos makes a world of difference and helps established credibility to these rulings.

I don’t know, a lot of the time these videos and the explanations bring up a lot of questions.  Viewed separately they may make sense, but viewing a group of them, one could still walk away wondering what the difference is between three games, five games, eight games and no suspension.

Shanahan says “don’t mess with my redwings”... meanwhile Bortuzzo still sits with a concussion thanks to a rinaldo elbow left unpunished.

Shanahan’s Justice ?

Textbook.  Illegal.  Scummy hit.

Much, much more than what I expected…given that Brendan Smith delivered a glaringly carbon copy of the same hit and he’s a first time offender as well.

Including three games in the preseason, so effectively, Smith served EIGHT games.

i think smith got more because there was an apparent injury on the play…. had abdelkader faked a injury on that play and not return to play that game, i think we would be looking at 5+

I’m with Garth on this way. Party on, Garth!

And those complaining about the Smith suspension, you have to remember, as Shanahan says in every video, one of the criteria looked at is injury/result of the play. That likely explains why Smith got 5 and Cole got 3.

Also, and you can debate if this is right or wrong, I can’t help but wonder if Brendan Smith’s track record off the ice had at least a small impact on the length of his suspension.
