How Will Hunter React To Another Washington Loss?

from Chuck Gormley of CSNWashington,

Dale Hunter finds himself at a crossroads in his first year as an NHL coach.

Does he brush aside Friday night’s 5-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils as just one team taking advantage of its chances and the other team getting stoned by a goalie on top of his game?

Or does he believe what was said in the locker room after the game – that there was a lack of pride, effort and signs of quit in his team?

Does he scold them? Cajole them? Crack the whip with the infamous ‘bag skate?’

“Honestly, that’s up to the coach to decide,” Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman said. “We play every other day for the rest of the season. I don’t know if making us tired will help. Maybe it will, I don’t know. Who knows? I don’t know.”

That’s the problem with these Capitals. Every time they take a step forward they take another step back. And no one seems to know why.

i can see washington voting against re-allignment.  Can you imagine if these guys had to play in a division with the rangers, penguins, flyers, and devils.  Hell even the islanders have a winning record against them this year.

WAS is built like traditional East teams.  Very top-heavy, with not much top-end on the blueline.

Problem is… more and more East teams are building like West teams.  WAS’s depth is laughable.  Ovechkin has had a bit of a down year, Backstrom’s been hurt, Semin’s what we thought he was… it’s all kinda’ hit at the same time.

They then brought in a complete joke of a coach in Dale Hunter, after letting go a coach they probably should have kept.

Washington’s window has closed.  That’s just how it works now.  They didn’t get it done, and now pieces are being taken away whether they mean to or not.

I predict by trade deadline next year, Ovechkin is going to be shopped ala Rick Nash.
