Early Look At 2013 UFAs

from Rory Barrs of the National Post,

Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks could be on the market, and what team would not jump to acquire his rare combination of size and skill. Florida’s Stephen Weiss might be looking for a change of scenery after spending the entirety of his career with the Panthers.

Mike Ribeiro, Andy McDonald, Mike Fisher, Derek Roy and Matt Cullen can also expect to attract plenty of suitors.

Wingers with expiring contracts in 2013 include Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla, who even at age 35 remains a consistent 30-goal scorer.

Anaheim’s Corey Perry will be next summer’s equivalent of Parise if the Ducks are unable to come to terms with the former Hart Trophy winner during the season. Anaheim GM Bob Murray has publicly stressed the importance of re-signing both Perry and Getzlaf to long-term deals, but keeping the duo will prove costly.

Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul heads into the final year of his current deal with the Maple Leafs on the heels of a 67-point season. If Lupul can repeat his strong performance, he could also become a prize catch.

Scott Hartnell, Nathan Horton, Ryan Clowe, Michael Ryder and Clarke MacArthur are others who could become very popular with league GMs.

I stopped reading after “Stephen Weiss might be looking for a change of scenery after spending the entirety of his career with the Panthers.” When Dale Tallon took over he asked all the players who wanted to stay and who wanted to go. Horton wanted a change of scenery and was sent packing. Weiss, who has a no trade clause, said he wanted to stay and be part of the solution. These columists just make stuff up like posters on the TSN site comment sections. Why read anything the guy writes when it is not based on facts just his guesses? He is no different from any hockey fan making silly suggestions except he gets paid for it.
