Department Of Player Safety Will Be Working OT Too

via NHL.com,

Three players will have hearings with the NHL Department of Player safety following their actions in Saturday’s playoff games.

New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin and Ottawa Senators defenseman Matt Carkner will each have hearings Sunday afternoon.

Carkner received a five-minute major for fighting, a two-minute minor for instigating and a game misconduct at 2:15 of the first period of the Senators’ 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers.

Hagelin was given a major penalty for elbowing at 10:32 of the second period after making contact with Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson’s head. Alfredsson went to the dressing room and did not return.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw will have a hearing Monday for an incident with Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith in Chicago’s 4-3 overtime win Saturday.

Shaw was assessed a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct at 7:11 of the second period after making conduct with Smith behind the Phoenix net. Smith was down for several minutes but was able to finish the game.

Until the Dept. of Player Safety starts reviewing referees actions then it will always be a joke.  Ian Walsh is a disgrace.

Three spins of the Wheel of Justice, followed by three wrist slaps.  Hardly working overtime.  Shanny can manage that between the first green and the second tee.

Nothing for Brent Burns?  I guess if you are a # 1 or 2 defenseman in your team you can do whatever you want.

I suspect 3 games for Carkner, 2 for Hagelin.

If Shanny were doing this the right way, Hagelin would be gone for at minimum the rest of the 1st round.  Clearly he wanted to target the head and there wasn’t a in the heat of the game or it happened so fast argument
