Colten Teubert: “My post hockey modelling career might be in trouble”

After sustaining what appeared to be a broken nose, and what many fans feared may end up being a concussion on Sunday night during the Young Star’s Tournament in Penticton B.C., Colten Teubert has been sent home to Edmonton. Keeping optimistic and lively, Teubert tweeted “My post hockey modeling career might be in trouble at this rate but who cares! #livinthedream.”

Colten Teubert at the Oilers Rookie camp in July

Teubert’s nose would not stop bleeding following the tilt which forced the team captain to the dressing room and left many Oilers’ fans concerned about the number of fights at a prospects tournament. The move to send Tuebert back to Edmonton is hopefully just precautionary, but when it comes to the Oilers’ prospects one can’t be too careful, the Oilers’ have had more than their fair share of injuries. The Oilers’ medical staff will be observing Teubert, but hopefully the young defenceman will be ready for the Oilers main training camp that starts on Satuday.

Of everyone hoping that Teubert will be ready for the camp, Teubert himself has the most invested. The Oilers seem quite stocked when it comes to forwards, but goal and the blueline are questions and concerns that will carry forward from last season. Acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in the Dustin Penner trade, Teubert is new to the Oilers, but not new to working for an NHL job. And at 21 and with last season in the AHL, Teubert is one of the oldest at the prospects’ tournament and has more North American professional experience than the rest of the Oilers’ prospect defencemen. GM Steve Tambellini has an eye on Teubert for any openings on the Oilers roster, rather than bringing in a veteran.

This Young Stars Tournament was an excellent opportunity for Teubert to make an impression, but thankfully, he will now have time to recover and further prepare for the Oilers’ main camp. This is also a step in the right direction for injury prevention and treatment, especially when it comes to head injuries. I applaud the actions of the Oilers, a second injury to the head could have proved to be quite detrimental to Teubert’s career.

It’s Teubert isn’t it? Though Polasek hit him so hard it may have scrambled the letters in his name…
