Colorado Problems Start With The Front Office

from Dave Krieger of the Denver Post,

Here’s the unfortunate truth about the Avs in the Sort of Post Pierre Lacroix Period: The people who might fire Sacco, whoever they are, should be looking in the mirror instead.

As my colleague Adrian Dater has pointed out, every major transaction the Avs’ front office touches these days seems to turn to sludge.

This is a rather marked contrast to the transactions during the Pierre Lacroix is Actually Here Period, when his acquisition of Patrick Roy turned into one Stanley Cup championship and his acquisition of Ray Bourque into another.

Since Lacroix kicked himself upstairs, the Avs have named successive number-crunchers to his old job. The latest, also in his third year, is an earnest young suit named Greg Sherman who may or may not be a better judge of hockey talent than you or me.

Trading away Shattenkirk and Stewart was a boneheaded move. They also let go TJ Hensick somewhat recently - the only all star prospect they had.
