Changes In Columbus?

from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch,

The Blue Jackets, off to a woeful 1-9-1 start, may be on the verge of making substantial changes.

Multiple NHL sources have informed The Dispatch early Sunday that Jackets president Mike Priest has contacted Ken Hitchcock about returning as the club’s coach, and that former Calgary Flames general manager Craig Button has been contacted about taking on the same job with the Jackets.

Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson and/or coach Scott Arniel could be replaced by Monday, the sources indicated

At the very least, Button, Hitchcock – and potentially other head coach or general manager candidates who may have been contracted – have been put on high alert this weekend.

Firing the GM and coach is a no brainer after their start. Bringing in Hitchcock makes sense because he already under contract for this year. Craig Button not so fast he wasn’t that great as Calgary’s GM. I would put an interm GM maybe the current assistant GM and wait until the season ends when good people can be hired as GM after their current contracts expire. Similar to Panthers putting Sexton as interm GM until they hired Tallon. You rush into a GM now he could be worse than what you already have.

Its hasn’t been so long ago that this team publicly quit on Hitchcock.  Bad idea.

Won’t matter.  The players are crap, specifically the defense.

No coach can win with them.

The team needs to be sold to someone who wants to compete and win.  Right now it is just part of a portfolio, just another asset owned by McConnell.  It might also help if they removed Mike Priest as president and put someone in charge who knew more about hockey.  Let that person facilitate any and all future management and coaching changes.  But something has to been done quickly.

Why, because the problem is that the owner wouldn’t let them spend money?

Wisnewski’s return should help a lot.  They won tonight.  Too soon to panic and throw everyone overboard.

Never trust the Dispatch. It’s one of the worst newspapers in the entire country.
