Kukla's Korner Hockey

Via Sportsnet’s Chris Nichols and others on Twitter and Facebook, Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford posted the following on Twitter a few minutes ago:
It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years. Exciting news for our franchise.— Jim Rutherford (@HurricanesGM) August 7, 2012
Update: And now George is glad he didn’t have a beverage to spit all over his laptop’s monitor, per TSN’s Bob McKenzie:
According to TSN Insider Bob McKenzie, Skinner’s new deal is believed to be a six-year extension worth an average annual value of $5.725 million.
“It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years,” Rutherford stated on Twitter. “Exciting news for our franchise.”
Skinner has one-year remaining on his entry-level deal. The 2011 Calder Memorial Trophy-winner scored 20 goals and added 24 assists in 64 games with the Hurricanes in 2011-12.
Remind me again why Rutherford’s in almost every CBA negotiation session representing the Hurricanes again? Fiscal sanity and all that?
