Capitals Lose 8th In A Row

Washington is 0-6-2 in their last 8 games and have scored 11 goals in that time period (4 coming in a shootout loss).

Where has their offense gone?  Just watching them play, they seem totally out of sync and have no style to their game.

Before facing the Penguins in the Winter Classic, they play in Ottawa tomorrow, then Devils visit Tuesday and Penguins on Thursday.  After Christmas they travel to Carolina and then welcome the Canadiens at home.

Trade freeze starts Sunday at midnight so not much they can do right now but to play through it.  How about Boudreau, is he safe?

As Don Cherry said tonight, he is not worried about GM George McPhee firing Boudreau, he is more concerned what that “hockey expert owner” Ted Leonsis will do.

added 11:59pm, You can watch Cherry’s remarks about the Capitals and Boudreau below.  Scroll to the 5:40 mark.

Wheels look like they’re coming off. It’s not so the behind-the-scenes stuff that tells me that, so much as the Capitals looked like they had no idea where their teammates would be in an 8th loss in a row. In a world where there was no documentary in progress, I would think if they lost the next two looking like they did in this game (that 3-2 score was deceptive, from what I saw) Boudreau would be fired. With the cameras there, I have no idea what the Capitals organization will do or if that makes him more or less safe.

The Caps will turn this thing around.  Hopefully not on Winter Classic day, but they will.  And when they do, look out.

Well offensively, sure they will…  It could have been last night, with them outshooting Boston 26-2 in the 3rd period alone, but Thomas held them off….

The question, as it has always been in recent years for the Caps, is their lack of defensive defensemen…. Acquiring Hannan is a start, but as you saw last night with Green, they’ve got a ways to go before they can be considered a good defensive team….

By the way, I’m just awaiting for the blog response from Teddy on that “hockey expert” jab from Cherry…. wink
