from Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun,
Nine months ago, give or take, in the hot-and-heavy days following their Stanley Cup meltdown, the Vancouver Canucks’ blueprint for rebounding was conceived.
To recap, the plan was pretty much as follows:
Stay healthy next time, punish the opponent when it commits fouls of intimidation by scoring on the power play, and don’t deviate from the architect’s model just because one team, one time, got away with assault.
Well, soon — 13 games from now, when the playing is once more for keeps — the gestation period will be over, and the finished product will pop out. The last several checkups have not been encouraging.
The ultrasounds have revealed a faintly beating heart, reduced brain activity, and an alarming number of malfunctioning parts. Dr. Alain Vigneault, eschewing a surgical solution, has prescribed two days of complete rest before the next examination.
