“Bryz, Think About The Game”

from Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic,

An interesting conversation occurred in Detroit last spring a few hours before the Coyotes met the Red Wings in the first game of the playoffs - not long after media reports from Canada had coach Dave Tippett’s team almost packed and ready to move.

Into the coaches’ office walked goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, the player first and foremost who had to keep a clear mind on the task at hand.

“(Bryzgalov) walked in the coaches’ dressing room about two and a-half before the first playoff game and said, ‘What’s up, coach? We moving?’ and that turned into a big distraction,” Tippett said.

“In the end, something that was thrown out there by the media, but like I said last year, it was interesting how it comes out two and a half before the first playoff game.”

His response to Bryzgalov: “Bryz, think about the game.”

Grasping at straws.. tippett is still trying to pin last years playoffs on the media a nd not him or his players.. great accountability.. it doesn’t make snese to you that you get more in depth coverage once you make the post season? Doesn’t make sense reporters ask this stuff on media/game day when the entire team is available.. was there a news blackout in glendale about the status of their own team?I know they bring up the h

I’m glad that this stuff comes out. While I don’t think Tip is pinning the loss on the media, I think he’s alluding to the rabid Canadian media “Jets watch” fiasco.

To me, it does help confirm the rumors that Bryz was a locker room cancer. There was plenty of subtle hints being dropped last year of some people in the room not buying in.

Bryz left, and Turris is sitting out this year. Fiddler and Belanger fit in, but seeked greener pastures. Jovo was always going to go back to the Panthers, and while it was a shame to see Stempniak go, getting Langkow was worth the loss.
